India has witnessed a wide stretch of the preaching of Buddhism, initiated by a prince turned monk, Gautam Buddha and continued by his disciples. Lord Buddha had preached through a lot of places both in Nepal and India, which are currently located in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The itinerary of 5 nights and 6 days intends to cover these spots encompassing arrival and departure at Bodh Gaya, Rajgir, Nalanda, Patna and Vaishali in Bihar and Kushinagar, an ancient town and Varanasi, an important spiritual destination for the Hindus, in Uttar Pradesh.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival at Gaya and transfer to Bodh Gaya

Reach Gaya and transfer to Bodh Gaya guided by the tour representative. Check in to a pre-booked hotel, complete the formalities and relax for a while. After lunch and a power nap visit the main attraction of Bodh Gaya, the Mahabodhi Temple, where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. The Bodhi Tree, under which Lord Buddha performed prolonged meditation is in the same temple complex. Thereafter, visit the Great Buddha Statue and the Wat Thai Temple. From here sightseeing for the day comes to an end.
Day 2

Bodh Gaya to Patna en route Rajgir and Nalanda

Check out from the hotel early in the morning after a heavy breakfast and drive to Patna, the capital city of Bihar. On the way to Patna, the tour package covers a few places, with giving a halt. The first halt is to explore the attractions of Rajgir, a city in the Nalanda district. The famed spots here are Vishwa Shanti Stupa, Griddhakuta, Pippala Cave and Karanda Tank. The next stop is at Nalanda to explore the ruined remains of the famous Nalanda University, founded by Kumaragupta in the 5th Century AD. Resume the journey towards Patna. Check-in to a hotel upon arrival.
Day 3

Patna - Vaishali

After savouring breakfast embark on a drive to Vaishali, a small, yet revered district in Bihar. Vaishali is also the birthplace of Lord Mahvira, a great preacher of Jainism. Explore some of the significant places at Vaishali, which include the Ashokan Pillar, Raja Vishal ka Garh, Buddha Relic Stupa and Vaishali Museum. Return to the hotel at Patna in the evening.
Day 4

Kushinagar - Varanasi

Check out from the hotel and head to Kushinagar, crossing the borders of Bihar and entering the state of Uttar Pradesh. Lord Buddha attained his nirvana at Kushinagar and the place also finds its mention in the writings of Hiuen Tsang. Visit the Indo Japan Sri Lanka Temple, Meditation Park and the Chinese Temple. Thereafter head towards Varanasi and check in to a hotel upon arrival. Spend some leisurely time and call it a day.
Day 5

Varanasi

Early in the morning in the wee hours, take a boat ride from Assi Ghat to Manikarnika Ghat. Post breakfast explore some of the tourist attractions in Varanasi. Begin with the Ramnagar Fort. Next, visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Durga Temple. After having lunch explore some of the ghats in Varanasi and witness the Ganga Aarti in the evening at Dashashwamedha Ghat.
Day 6

Departure from Varanasi

Check out from the hotel after savouring breakfast and transfer to the airport or the railway station of Varanasi for departure.
